Your neighbors in Andover are going solar

Andover grew in waves, and you can read them street by street. Down near Bunker Lake Boulevard and Crooked Lake you’ll find the older ramblers and split-levels from the 1970s and 80s, simple gable roofs that have usually been reshingled once or twice by now. Move north through subdivisions like Fox Hollow, Cardinal Ridge, and Crown Pointe and the houses turn into 1990s two-stories. Woodland Creek and the Petersen Farms developments – Legacy, Meadows, Preserve – are newer still, with bigger roof planes and fewer trees overhead. And north of Bunker Lake Boulevard the city goes rural-residential fast: acreage lots, pole barns, long driveways out toward Cedar Creek. We design differently for each of these. A 1978 split-level with a 40-year-old oak next to it is a different project than a 2018 two-story in Petersen Farms, and we quote them that way.

Where solar produces best in Andover

The newer neighborhoods produce the best numbers, and it’s not close. Petersen Farms, Woodland Creek, and the other 2000s-and-later developments were built on former farm fields, so the trees are young and short, and the two-story homes there tend to have large, unbroken south- or west-facing roof planes – exactly what you want. The rural acreage lots in north Andover are strong too, for a different reason: with two-plus acres you almost always have at least one roof face or open patch of yard with clear southern exposure. The 1970s-80s ramblers near Crooked Lake and Bunker Lake Boulevard can still perform well when the ridge runs east-west, which many do.

The harder cases are the older streets where oaks have had fifty years to grow. There we run a shade analysis first, and we build the system around it – microinverters or optimizers so one shaded panel doesn’t drag down the row, and panel placement that skips the worst afternoon shadows rather than pretending they aren’t there. On Andover’s acreage lots we’ll also price a ground mount, which lets you put the array in the sunniest corner of the property instead of compromising on the roof.

Solar in Andover

Is your Andover place a good fit?

We look at what actually drives production in Andover (Anoka County).

Homes & roofs

Andover roofs range from simple 1970s rambler and split-level gables near Crooked Lake to big multi-plane two-stories in Woodland Creek and Petersen Farms, plus outbuildings on the rural lots up north. Most are asphalt shingle; if yours is due for replacement in the next few years, we’ll tell you before we install.

Trees & shading

Southern Andover’s older neighborhoods carry mature oaks that create real afternoon shade. The newer developments on former farmland – Petersen Farms, Woodland Creek – are mostly wide open. North Andover acreage varies lot by lot, but the space usually gives you a sunny option somewhere.

Sun & seasons

Minnesota produces strong solar spring through fall, and cold, clear winter days are productive too. Snow slides off the smooth panels, and we size every Andover system for the full year.

Local power & incentives

Andover is served by Connexus Energy, the member-owned cooperative based next door in Ramsey. Connexus has its own interconnection and net-billing process, which works differently than Xcel’s – the application, the meter swap, the rate structure. We’ve filed Connexus paperwork plenty of times and handle the whole application for you, from interconnection agreement to permission to operate.

Local design, honest numbers

We design each Andover system around your roof, shading and real usage — premium Tier-1 panels and Enphase microinverters, installed clean and permitted by the same crew that starts the job. No subcontractors, no inflated production promises.

Battery backup in Andover

Pairing storage with solar keeps your Andover home or business powered through outages and banks your daytime production for the evening. We size it to what matters most to you.

Honest, fair pricing

Quality work, priced fairly.

You get the equipment, engineering and workmanship you'd expect from the big national installers — delivered by a local, family-owned crew that's here for the long haul. Every system is designed and installed by our own team, permitted and inspected, and backed by a 30-year warranty.

Good questions

Frequently asked.

Does solar still work through Minnesota winters in Andover?

Yes. Panels actually run more efficiently in the cold, snow slides off the smooth glass, and our honest Andover estimates already bake in winter losses. Strong spring-through-fall production more than makes up for the short December days.

Which utility serves Andover, and do you handle the paperwork?

Andover homes get their electricity from Connexus Energy, the electric cooperative headquartered in Ramsey – not Xcel. That matters because Connexus has its own interconnection application, technical requirements, and rate treatment for member-owned solar. Yes, we handle all of it: the interconnection agreement, the city electrical and building permits, inspections, and the final sign-off before your system turns on.

My Andover roof has some shade — can I still go solar?

Often yes. Per-panel microinverters keep your unshaded panels producing even if a tree shades part of the roof, and we map your roof's sun before we design. If shade is heavy, we'll tell you straight and look at a ground-mount where there's room.

Do you do business and farm solar in Andover too?

Yes — alongside home solar we install commercial systems (with the 30% ITC, depreciation and demand-charge savings) and agricultural or ground-mount solar for Andover-area businesses, farms and acreage. Same local family crew.

I’m on an acreage lot in north Andover – can I do a ground-mount system instead of putting panels on my roof?

Usually yes, and on a lot of north Andover properties it’s the better option. A ground mount lets us set the perfect tilt and point the array due south, away from your house’s shade, and it’s easier to keep clear of snow. The city treats it as an accessory structure, so setbacks and a permit apply, and we handle that paperwork along with the Connexus interconnection. If you’ve got a pole barn with a good south-facing roof, that can be an option too – we’ll price both and let you compare.
