The tool uses Google's Solar API — the same rooftop dataset behind Project Sunroof — to pull your roof's usable area, tilt, orientation and shading from aerial imagery, then lays out standard ~400-watt panels and runs the production against the utility rate you enter. It lands close for most homes, but it's still a model: roof age and condition, your electrical service, and your exact net-metering plan all need an on-site look before we quote a real system.

The imagery already works around obstructions and shading, so a chimney or a shaded corner shows up as less usable area rather than being ignored.
