Utility Bill Extractor

Solar savings claims live and die on your real usage. Drop in up to 12 electric bills (a full year paints the clearest picture) and iSolar reads out your monthly kWh, rate structure, peak/off-peak split, demand charges and totals — no manual typing, no guessing. Then send the numbers over for a free, honest quote built on what you actually use.

Why it matters

Good solar math starts with your real numbers

Every payback estimate rests on two assumptions: how much power you use and what you pay for it. When a salesperson guesses — a flat rate when you’re really on time-of-use, one month stretched across a year, demand charges left out — the whole projection drifts. This tool lifts the actual figures straight off your bills, so the conversation you have with iSolar starts from fact instead of a rounded-off guess.

We read each bill for total kWh (peak/mid/off-peak if you’re on TOU), rate structure, per-kWh rates, the fixed monthly charge, demand charges on commercial bills, net-metering credits, and the bill total. Your bill is used only to generate the analysis — account numbers are partially redacted.

What this can’t tell you

What the read can’t do.

It needs a legible bill

A blurry photo or a summary-only PDF that hides the usage table can come back incomplete. Your utility’s downloaded PDF reads cleanest, but a clear phone photo works too — and if a month won’t parse, we sort it by hand.

It reads your past, not your future

The extract is your actual usage to date. Solar changes the picture, and so does an added EV charger, a heat pump or a growing household. We factor expected changes in when we size the system.

It isn’t a rate-plan recommendation

It reports the rate structure you’re on — flat, tiered or time-of-use. Whether switching plans or moving to a solar-friendly TOU rate would help is a conversation for your free assessment.

Your bill stays yours

Bills are used only to build the analysis, account numbers are partially redacted, and there’s no signup — you only hear from us if you choose to request a quote.

Good questions

Frequently asked.

What file formats can I upload?

PDFs and photos (JPG/PNG) both work — your utility’s downloaded PDF is cleanest, but a clear phone photo of each bill is fine. You can drop in up to 12 bills at once.

How many bills should I upload?

One works, but twelve is ideal. Minnesota electricity use peaks in deep winter and again in mid-summer, so a single month can badly over- or under-state your real annual usage. A full year captures both ends.

Is my utility data safe?

Yes. Your bills are used only to generate the usage analysis, account numbers are partially redacted, and there’s no signup to run it. You only hear from us if you choose to request a quote.

Does it handle Xcel time-of-use and demand charges?

Yes. It reads flat, tiered and time-of-use (peak / mid / off-peak) structures, the fixed monthly charge, and — on commercial bills — demand charges, plus any net-metering credits. That detail is exactly what a flat-rate guess leaves out.

What happens after I get my numbers?

They become the honest starting point for everything else — drop them into the Savings or Payback calculators, or bring them to a free iSolar assessment and we’ll size a system to your real usage, not a rounded-off average.
