Roof work under your panels? One call handles it all.
We safely remove your solar array, our roofing family replaces the roof underneath, and we reinstall and recommission it — one schedule, one accountable team, no finger-pointing.

A new roof under your existing solar — done right
You may also hear this service called remove & reattach, remove & reroof (or re-roof), remove & replace (R&R), solar panel removal and reinstallation, or simply taking the panels off to reroof. Whatever the name, it's the same job: we safely remove your solar array, your new roof goes on, and we reset and recommission the system.
Your roof will need work long before your 30-year solar does. When that day comes, the panels have to come off: the shingles underneath have to be torn off and replaced, and the racking is bolted through the roof. It's also live, high-voltage equipment — so a roofer can't safely work around it. That's what detach & reset is: we de-energize and remove the array, the roof gets done, and we reinstall, rewire and recommission it.
The difference is who's holding the whole thing together. Do it with two separate companies and you get two schedules, weeks of downtime in between, and a blame game if anything leaks. Do it with iSolar and you get one coordinated job.
Solar, roofing and electrical — one family.
No subcontractor shuffle, no finger-pointing — the people who take the panels off are family with the people putting the roof on.
One call, one schedule
iSolar removes and resets the solar; Three Rivers Contracting does the roof; Three Rivers Electric handles any electrical — all coordinated in-house on one timeline.
No finger-pointing
If anything ever needs attention, you call one number and one family stands behind the entire job — not a roofer blaming a solar company and vice-versa.
Less downtime
Because one team runs both trades, your system is off for just the roofing days — not the weeks you wait when a roofer and a solar crew have to be booked separately.
Your warranties protected
We reinstall to the panel, racking and shingle manufacturers' specs, so your solar warranty and your new roof warranty stay intact.
About a business week, coordinated start to finish.
Day 1 — detach & store
We de-energize the system, remove the panels and racking, label every component, and store it all safely on padded supports.
Days 2–4 — the roof
Three Rivers Contracting tears off and replaces the roof — with the upgrades below that most roofers skip — while we stay in the loop.
Day 5 — reset & recommission
We reinstall the array with properly flashed mounts, rewire to code, pass inspection, and recommission with your utility — confirming production on monitoring before we leave.
The upgrades that protect your roof for decades.
A solar array makes dozens of holes in your roof. Here's how we make sure none of them ever leak — and your warranties stay valid.
Full ice & water shield under the array
We run self-adhered ice & water membrane across the entire roof area beneath your array — not just the code-minimum at the eaves — so every mount penetration is sealed. The most-penetrated part of your roof becomes the best-protected.
Manufacturer-approved, flashed mounts
Metal through-flashing woven up under the shingle course (not a bead of caulk that fails), lag-bolted into structural rafters, on UL-listed racking — the method that actually sheds water for the life of the roof.
Shingle-warranty-safe install
New shingles often require a specific approved mount and flashing or the roof warranty is void. GAF, Owens Corning and CertainTeed all spec this — we install to keep your coverage intact.
Inspect, upgrade & future-proof
With the array down, it's the ideal time to replace worn racking, add panels or a battery, or move to current-generation microinverters — no second mobilization.
The things most solar companies can't do.
Taking over an orphaned system, keeping your manufacturer warranty valid, and working an insurance claim — this is where the Three Rivers family is different.
We adopt orphaned systems
If the company that installed your solar is gone, we become your local servicer — including transferring your monitoring / maintainer account (Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge, Tigo) into our service account so we can watch, support and warranty it.
Manufacturer-certified service
Equipment warranties — especially the labor portion — often stay valid only when a manufacturer-certified installer services the system. We hold the certifications and training for the gear we install and service, so your coverage isn't accidentally voided.
A GC who knows insurance
Storm and hail roof damage is usually an insurance claim — and most solar companies have zero claims experience. Three Rivers Contracting is a licensed general contractor that works directly with insurance adjusters, so the roof and the detach & reset go through one claim.
Inherited a system from a company that vanished?
It happens constantly in solar — an installer over-promises, churns, or goes out of business, and the homeowner is left with panels nobody will service and a monitoring login that belongs to a dead company. We take those systems on. We transfer the manufacturer monitoring and maintainer account into our name — the formal process with Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge or Tigo — re-establish monitoring and alerts, and become the local team you call. One tip for anyone shopping: make sure whoever services your array is certified by your specific equipment's manufacturer, because that is often what keeps your parts-and-labor warranty valid.
Roof damage that's an insurance claim? We speak that language.
When hail or wind takes out a roof under solar, you're suddenly juggling an insurance adjuster, a roof warranty, equipment warranties, and — usually — two different companies pointing at each other. Having a general contractor with real insurance-claim experience is what untangles it, and it is not something a typical solar company can offer. Three Rivers Contracting documents the damage, works directly with your adjuster, and folds the roof replacement and the solar detach & reset into one coordinated claim — so you get the roof you're owed and your solar back online, without refereeing between trades.

Frequently asked.
What exactly is solar detach & reset?
Also called remove & reset (or R&R): we safely de-energize and remove your solar array and racking so your roof can be replaced or repaired, store everything, then reinstall, rewire and recommission the system once the new roof is on. You end up with a new roof under your existing solar — done right.
Is “detach & reset” the same as remove & reattach or remove & reroof?
Yes — those are all names for the same service. Homeowners and roofers search for it as detach & reset (D&R), remove & reattach, remove & reroof or re-roof, remove & replace, R&R, and solar panel removal and reinstallation for a roof replacement. We handle the whole process in-house: safely detaching and storing your panels, coordinating the new roof, then resetting, rewiring and recommissioning your system.
Why can't my roofer just work around the panels?
They can't, safely. The shingles under the array have to be torn off and replaced, and the racking is lag-bolted through the roof — so the solar has to come off first. It's also live, high-voltage equipment: removing and reconnecting it is licensed electrical/solar work, not roofing work. Trying to roof around panels leads to leaks, damaged modules and voided warranties.
How long does it take, and how much downtime is there?
A typical residential detach & reset runs about a business week end to end: roughly a day to de-energize, remove and store the array; two to three days for the roof; then a day to reset, rewire and recommission once the shingles have settled. Your system is de-energized only during those middle roofing days — and because we run the solar and (with Three Rivers Contracting) the roof on one coordinated schedule, that window is as short as possible.
Will I lose solar production while it's off?
Only during the days the system is de-energized for the roofing — usually a few days. That lost production is real, so we schedule tightly to minimize it (and time projects for shoulder seasons where we can). One coordinated crew means no waiting weeks between a roofer finishing and a separate solar company showing up.
Where do my panels go during the roof work?
We label every panel and component, handle them on padded supports, and store them in a secured spot on site so nothing is scratched, cracked or lost. Rails, mounts and wiring are kept and inspected — anything worn or damaged gets flagged before we put it back, not after.
Could this void my solar or roof warranty?
Not when it's done right — but it absolutely can when it's done wrong. Major shingle makers (GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed) require roof penetrations to be flashed to their spec by a qualified contractor, or the roof warranty can be voided. We use manufacturer-approved, properly flashed mounts and reinstall to spec, so both your new roof warranty and your solar warranty stay intact.
Do you put ice & water shield under the array?
Yes — and more than code requires. We run self-adhered ice & water shield across the full roof area under your array, not just the code-minimum at the eaves. Every solar mount is a roof penetration, and that membrane seals each one, so the most penetrated part of your roof is also the most protected. It's a small upgrade that prevents the leaks cheap jobs are famous for.
What mounts and flashing do you use?
Manufacturer-approved mounts with metal through-flashing woven up under the upslope shingle course (not just a bead of sealant that fails in a few years), lag-bolted into the structural rafters with proper embedment, on UL-2703-listed racking. New shingles in particular need the right flashed mount or you risk voiding the shingle warranty — we use the type the roof manufacturer approves.
Can I upgrade my system while it's down?
It's the perfect time. With the array off the roof we can add panels, swap to current-generation microinverters, add a battery, or re-optimize the layout — all without a second mobilization. Many homeowners bundle an upgrade into a reset.
Do you reuse my old racking or replace it?
We inspect it. Good rails and mounts get reused; anything corroded, bent or out of spec gets replaced. We'd rather replace a worn part now, while the roof is open, than have it fail later.
Who handles permits, inspection and turning it back on?
We do — the whole chain. We pull the electrical/solar permits, reinstall and rewire to code, pass inspection, recommission the system with the utility, and confirm it's producing on monitoring before we call it done. You don't chase anyone.
My roof and solar were installed by different companies — who's responsible if something leaks?
That's exactly the headache we remove. When a roofer and a solar company are separate, a leak turns into finger-pointing — each blames the other while you're stuck in the middle. With iSolar doing the solar and our sister company Three Rivers Contracting doing the roof, it's one family, one schedule, one phone call, and one accountable team standing behind the whole job.
What if the company that installed my solar went out of business?
We take over orphaned systems. We become your local servicer and transfer the manufacturer monitoring/maintainer account (Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge, Tigo) into our name so we can monitor it, support it and handle warranty claims — even though we didn't install it.
Can you transfer my solar monitoring / maintainer account to your company?
Yes. Each manufacturer has a formal transfer process — for example Enphase transfers ownership and Enlighten access (a manufacturer fee may apply), and SolarEdge transfers monitoring-site administration rights to a new installer at no homeowner cost. We handle the paperwork and re-establish monitoring and alerts.
Why does it matter that you're certified by my equipment's manufacturer?
Because manufacturer warranties — especially the labor reimbursement — are often only honored when a certified installer handles and services the equipment. Letting an uncertified company touch your system can quietly void that coverage. We maintain the manufacturer certifications and training for the equipment we install and service.
My roof damage is an insurance claim — can you deal with that?
Yes, and it's rare in solar. Our roofing arm, Three Rivers Contracting, is a licensed general contractor experienced with insurance claims — we document hail/wind damage, work with your adjuster, and run the roof replacement and the solar detach & reset as one coordinated claim.
Do you offer detach & reset for roofing contractors?
Yes. We're a reliable detach & reset partner for Minnesota roofers — we get the array off and back on cleanly and on schedule so you can do the roof, with the electrical handled by licensed pros. Call us to set up a project.
