Keep going and you hit acreage and hobby farms out toward Eagle Lake, Skyline, and rural Blue Earth County. Where solar produces best in Mankato

The east hilltop is Mankato’s sweet spot. Those newer subdivisions off Highway 22 and Adams Street were built with simple, steep-enough gable and hip roofs, plenty of homes have a clean south- or west-facing plane, and the boulevard trees are still young enough that they don’t cast shade on anything. Same story with the ramblers around Highland Park: long, uncomplicated rooflines that can take a full string of panels. Homes on the open plateau also skip the valley’s terrain shading. Complex roofs with dormers and multiple small planes get the same treatment.
