Critter Guard
The warm, sheltered gap under a solar array is prime Minnesota real estate for squirrels, birds and other critters. Chewed cables and nests follow — unless the array is sealed right.
The risk
One squirrel can rack up thousands of dollars in damage before it ever shows up in your monitoring — and the removal bills don’t stop coming.
Squirrels gnaw through PV wire and connectors in a single season. A chewed conductor can take out a whole string — and shorts can fry a panel’s microinverter or optimizer, meaning rooftop labor plus new hardware.
Nests mean repeat wildlife-removal visits, roof and gutter cleanup, and trapped moisture rotting your shingles — recurring costs with no end.
Damaged strings and dead panels can run unnoticed for months. Left unprotected, a single critter season routinely runs into the thousands — far more than sealing the array once.
The fix
We fit powder-coated galvanized mesh to the exact gap of your array — fastened with panel clips, never drilled.
Clip-mounted mesh attaches to the panel frame — no drilling, no holes, no impact on panel or roof warranties.
Existing nests and debris are removed and your wiring inspected before the array is sealed.
We guard arrays we installed — and arrays your original installer left behind.

Good questions
No. The mesh clips to the panel frame — nothing is drilled or glued to the panels or roof, so manufacturer and roof warranties are unaffected.
Squirrels are the biggest offender (they chew wire insulation), followed by birds and pigeons nesting under the array. Mice and raccoons show up occasionally.
Yes. Every critter-guard install starts with a full cleanout — nests and debris removed, wiring inspected and repaired if needed — before we seal the perimeter.
Most homes are done in a half day to a day, depending on array size and roof access.
Absolutely. We regularly seal arrays for owners whose original installer is no longer around.
