There are a variety of financing options and financial incentives that can make a residential solar energy system affordable for Minnesota homeowners.

Get ready for more rewards and an even bigger return on your solar investment!

When you install a solar energy system onto your home, you may qualify for certain tax advantages and rebates from your local utilities provider. We've compiled a list of such rewards and rebates below.

Home Solar Rebates

Xcel Energy Solar Rewards

Customers receive an extra $.04/kWh for all solar energy produced for 10 years.  For the average sized solar project this adds up to $500 yearly or $5,000 over 10 years.  You are allowed to install a system on site that will produce 120% of what you consume or less.

Solar Rewards Details

Dakota Electric Association

Customers can receive a $500 incentive.  Dakota Electric will allow you to install a system on site that will produce up to 120% of what you consume or less. Any energy generated over 100% can be sold back to Dakota Electric via Net Metering.

Shakopee Public Utility

Customers receive $1.50 per watt installed up to 4kW (4,000watts).  For average sized project this adds up to $6,000 rebate when system is operational in year 1.  This rebate is capped at $6,000.  SPUC requires shading analysis as part of the application.

Chaska Utility

Customers receive $.25 per watt installed up to 10kw (10,000watts).  For the average size project the rebate amounts to $2,000 rebate which is paid to customer after system is operational in year 1.  The rebate is capped at $2,500.

Minnesota Power

Customers receive $.56 per anticipated kWh of year 1 production.  For the average sized project the rebate is $5,200 paid out when system is operational.  Total rebate is capped at $10,000.

Steele-Waseca Cooperative

The Power Program allows customers to receive an extra $.12/kWh for the first year and $.08 for the next 9 years for all solar energy produced for 10 years.  For the average sized solar project this adds up to $1000 yearly or $10,000 over 10 years.  You are allowed to install up to a 14kW AC system on site.
