This Cottage Grove homeowner went with a 27-panel, 10.625 kW ground-mounted system rather than a roof install, and the array produces more than the home typically uses in a month.
The surplus goes back to Xcel Energy through net metering, which credits the homeowner’s account for the extra power. Going ground-mount here let us aim the panels for the best angle without being boxed in by roof pitch or shading, and it keeps the array easy to access for cleaning, snow-clearing and future service.
Because the homeowner owns this system, they keep the energy savings, the net-metering value and the resale value — iSolar doesn’t do residential leases or PPAs in Minnesota. (The federal residential solar tax credit ended December 31, 2025; the value here is ownership and decades of net-metering credit.)
